It began serialization in Square Enix’s Young Gangan in October 2017. The individual chapters of the series have been collected in ten volumes as of April 2022.

Anime preview
The plot of isekai anime usually centers on someone dying in the modern world and being reincarnated into a new world full of magic and fantasy. Dead Mount Death Play is the complete opposite. According to the official synopsis from Yen Press, we start with a battle to the death between Calamity Crusher, a legendary hero, and a powerful necromancer known as the Corpse God. The Corpse God realized that luck was not on his side during the battle and decided to try one last strategy that might save him: reincarnation.
Instead of being born in the same world as his kin, God Corse now lives in the body of a Shinjuku boy! The God of the Corpses took over Polka Shinoyama’s body after she was murdered. As the wrong people become interested in their host’s life and the Corpse God’s quest, the Corpse God has been unable to find peace in modern times.
He is determined to start a new life in this new world and refuses to let his friends or loved ones be hurt in any way. The ancient creatures will do everything in their power to keep the peace, but for how long?
The legendary hero faces the corpse necromancer of the necromancer god in a thrilling battle. But, as the dust settled, it seemed that something was wrong. The corpse god’s final shot was a surprise—reincarnation magic. A boy named Polka Shinoyama feels… not entirely himself. Who would have thought that the final battle between good and bad would be this dramatic? ?
Reviews of anime
Its structure is very similar to Durarara. The manga gradually builds up the characters, switching between different perspectives. This will lead to more characters and new perspectives, stories, storylines and other details, which will eventually create an avalanche that will eventually lead to a conclusion.
No conclusion is seen in chapter 58.

story 6/10, art 6/10, characters 5/10, fun 6/10, overall 6/10.
If you can handle Durarara’s storytelling and the constant changing of points, it’s pretty good storytelling. However, the problem with the story is that it slows down as the number of characters and parallel stories becomes too great. It’s still interesting to see this unfold and grow in complexity. However, some events can take up too many chapters due to the large number of parallel storylines. This is a problem. It’s a far cry from the countless generic isekai manga that have appeared recently.
Art: 6/10.
While the art is nice and detailed, there’s a lot of dialogue with talking heads against a white background. Manga art is very typical of modern manga, without significant differences. When they are present, the necromantic moment stands out.
Character: 5/10.
No character development. Character slowly revealed. Each begins with a “role” and the author then bumps them up, showing the reader what happened. I haven’t seen anything changed in 58 chapters, and some of the characters are too sexy. They’re still pretty good and not so corny. But don’t expect to see a lot of real people with like-minded characters.
Enjoyment: 6/10. The story becomes more fun as you collect more characters. It was a bit slow at the start.
Overall: 6/10.
It’s worth checking out, especially for those who are tired of the endless stream of (modern) isekai manga.
What’s the plot?
Legendary heroes face off against necromancer gods in a fantasy world. The necromancer god had an ace up his sleeve during the final moments of this epic fight. He used reincarnation magic. The hero defeats the necromancer god. Or so he thought. A boy named Polka Shinoyama wakes up in another world and feels different. The battle between evil and good has changed dramatically in ancient times.
The anime follows Polka Shinomiya’s journey to discover more about herself and her connection to crime. The manga also introduces new enemies and allies. Often times, the story switches between different character perspectives. However, the question is whether Polka is the hero of the story or the villain.
Dead Mount Death Play: Official Announcement
Square Enix announced on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 that Dead Mount Death Play is inspiring a TV anime. King Amusement Creative released a teaser for the same. The anime will be directed by Manabu Ono at GEEK TOYS Studio. Takayuki Yamaguchi is serving as sound director. FMF composes the music. Hisashi Abe is designing the characters.
Yuki Sakakihara will play Polka Shimoyama. Inori Minase will also be heard as Misaki Sakimiya. Yumi Uchida will be voicing Takumi Kuruya. It will be a supernatural fantasy anime. Yamaguchi has directed many fantasy shows in the same genre, so sound design is important. Below is the trailer.

The series is written by Ryohgo Nara and illustrated by Shinta Yamamoto. Serialization began in Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine, October 20, 2017. Each chapter of the series has been compiled into ten tankobon volumes as of November 2022.

Amy McNulty and Rebecca Silverman of Anime News Network praised the plot and character art, but criticized the fan service. Richard Gutierrez, of The Fandom Post, praised the premise of the artwork but felt that the plot was overly complicated and confusing.

On November 15, 2022, an anime TV series adaptation was announced. Geek Toys produced the series. Manabu Ono is the director. Takaharu Okuma helps with sub-direction. Yoshiki Kitai is directing.
