As previously mentioned at OC, film distributor Kino Lorber is quietly making the full art film available for streaming on YouTube and its own website. In recent weeks, they have uploaded documentaries to YouTube, Beyond the Visible: Hilma Af Klint and MC Escher: Journey to Infinity. Now come Hieronymus Bosch: Touched by the Devilwhich they describe as follows:
In 2016, the Noordbrabants Museum in the Dutch city of Den Bosch held a special exhibition dedicated to the work of Hieronymus Bosch, who died 500 years ago. This late medieval artist lived his entire life in the city, causing quite a stir with his fantastically unique paintings in which hell and the devil always played a pivotal role. In preparation for the exhibition, a team of Dutch art historians roamed the world to uncover the secrets of his art. They used a special infrared camera to examine the sketch under the paint, in hopes of finding out more about the artist’s intentions. They also attempted to determine which paintings could be attributed with certainty to Bosch himself, and which to his students or followers. Experts go back and forth between Den Bosch, Madrid and Venice, cutting their way through the bureaucratic fabric of the art world, in a battle against countless ego barriers and conflicting interests. Not every museum is prepared to allow access to their precious works of art.
