According to the report, Aadrita Mukerji will be writing the script Princess Diary 3which was set as a continuation of the films led by Anne Hathaway instead of a reboot or remake.
The report notes that Hathaway herself doesn’t have a return deal herself as of now, but she has frequently said that she would be open to returning to the franchise if the possibility arose, so fans will just have to wait for more information on that.
Original Princess Diary was released in 2001 and starred Hathaway as an American teenager who later learns that she is the heir to the throne of the European kingdom of Genovia. The film itself is based on the Meg Cabot novel of the same name and stars Julie Andrews. The release was met with almost universal acclaim, propelling Hathaway to superstardom and earning over $165 million at the box office, far more than many expected due to its G-ratings and general subject matter.
