The Little Mermaid’s New Poster Shows The Mermaid in Stunning Classic Pose

Ariel ( Halle Bailey ) is eager to become part of another world with the new poster released for Disney’s live-action film adaptation The Little Mermaid, which is an homage to the teaser poster for the 1989 animated classic. The image is a clear tribute to original 1989 movie poster, in which a young princess living underwater dreams of visiting the surface world. After a storm leaves prince Eric (played by Jonah Hauer-King in the new version) injured on a nearby beach, Ariel cares for him, creating a romance that motivates the princess to negotiate a dangerous deal in exchange for a pair of human legs.

Just like in the animated film, this new version will revolve around Ariel who agrees with the evil witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) to give up her voice for legs. However, if Ariel cannot get Eric to kiss her after three days, she will turn back into a mermaid, and be forced to work for Ursula for the rest of her life. The deal may be changing this time around, as Disney’s official plot description for the film indicates that Ariel’s (Javier Bardem) father’s crown will also be threatened when the mermaid signs a cruel contract from Ursula. Fans won’t have to wait long to find out more, as the film will hit theaters on May 26.

This new version of the story was directed by Rob Marshall, who previously worked with Disney to direct 2018’s Mary Poppins Returns. This 2018 sequel stars Emily Blunt as the iconic character made famous by Julie Andrews in 1964. Returns was nominated for four Academy Awards, giving the studio the confidence to allow Marshall to travel under the sea. The filmmaker has also directed Into The Woods and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides for Disney, drawing on his experience in musicals and action films.

The Little Mermaid returns to the story of Princess Ariel, the youngest daughter of King Triton (Javier Bardem). Despite the king’s hatred of the surface world, Ariel is endlessly fascinated by it. When she saves a human, Prince Eric, from a shipwreck, Ariel begins to fall in love with him and is determined to see him again no matter what. However, he faces several obstacles, first being from his father’s ban and then growing conflict with the sea witch Ursula.

The film also stars Jude Akuwudike as Grimsby, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Awkwafina as Scuttle. Lorena Andrea and Kasja Mohammar star as Perla and Karina respectively, two characters created specifically for the latest version of the film. Additional cast members include Simone Ashley, Noma Dumezwani, Russell Balogh, Jessica Alexander, Adrian Christopher, and Emily Coates.

The Little Mermaid is a film adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale with the same title. Anderson’s work was first published in 1837 and has been frequently adapted for theater and film. Previously this story was raised by Disney in animated form in 1989.

For information in the original story, the story of this fairy tale tells of the adventures of a mermaid who sacrificed her life in the mermaid kingdom for a human prince. The beginning of the story is when the mermaids who have grown up are given the opportunity by the king to go observe life outside the mermaid kingdom, including the sea surface. They had to tell their observations after returning to the kingdom. The main character also has the opportunity to go survey the sea surface and then falls in love with a human prince.
