The Ice Road 2 picked up by Prime Video, Liam Neeson back

Amazon Prime Video set to buy pre-international rights to sequel to hit action movie The ice roadaccording to a recent Deadline report.

The sequel, titled Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky, will see Liam Neeson go back to star in the movie. According to Deadline’s report, no official deal has been reached, but their sources mention that Amazon is in the process of acquiring the rights to the film in the international market outside of Germany.

What will Ice Road 2 be about?

The sequel will see Neeson reprise his role as ice road pilot Mike McCann, who travels to Nepal to honor his late brother’s last wishes to scatter his ashes on Mount Everest. “While on a crowded tour bus traversing the deadly 12,000 foot terrain of the infamous Road to Heaven, McCann and his mountain guide encounter a group of Nepali mercenaries and must fight not only to save themselves themselves and save the bus full of innocent travelers, but also the homeland of the local villagers,” reads the film’s synopsis.

Alongside Neeson, writer-director Jonathan Hensleigh will also return to the film. The original film starred Neeson, Benjamin Walker, Amber Midthunder, Marcus Thomas, Laurence Fishburne, and more, but it’s unclear if any will return for the sequel.

The Ice Road was released by Netflix in 2021 and received mixed reviews from critics and audiences.

The original film centered on the collapse of a diamond mine in northern Canada. In the aftermath of the collapse, “a ‘big rig’ ice road driver must lead an impossible rescue mission over a frozen ocean to rescue the trapped miners. Faced with melting waters and a huge storm, they discover that the real threat is one they never saw coming.
