Capcom announced that Street Fighter 6 officially passed the milestone of one million copies sold in just a few days. The game launched on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms on June 2 and was an instant hit with fans and critics alike, thanks in large part to its excellent netcode, robust character creator, and the addition of the Drive System. This positive perception has led to massive sales numbers across the various platforms, which puts Capcom in a party mood. Along with the announcement that SF6 has already sold 1 million copies, the team revealed that they are offering a free reward to anyone who currently plays the fighter.

Capcom is not giving away new skins or currency rewards as part of this celebration. The sales milestone and reward were only part of the announcement, however. Capcom also revealed that Street Fighter 6The numbers for have now pushed the franchise as a whole over the 50 million mark sold. Admittedly, most of this number comes from street fighter 2 and its many reissues, but it’s still quite an achievement. Whether SF6 is able to build on its current momentum, we could see the franchise as a whole clearing 60 million relatively quickly.
Either way, now is the perfect time to be a fighting game fan. Street Fighter 6 is already a big hit, but it could just be the start of a great year for the genre. Mortal Kombat 1 And tekken 8 are both apparently coming out later this year and looking great in early trailers. Regardless, Street Fighter 6 has proven that there is still a massive following for good fighters and should continue to grow with post-launch support over the rest of the year.
