The sequel to the famous Indian action film RRR is in development, with director SS Rajamouli confirming to Variety that a story for a new film is in the works.

According to Rajamouli, a new film is being worked on by his father, screenwriter V. Vijayendra Prasad, who also wrote all of Rajamouli’s films. “My father is the story writer for all my films. We discussed a little about [RRR 2] and he is working on the story,” Rajamouli said during a recent screening in Chicago last weekend. as standing, RRR 2 it’s too early in its development stages for any plotting or casting information.
News of a sequel is sure to get fans excited, but perhaps not all that surprising. The original premiered in March 2022 and was known to have had the highest budget for an Indian film (~$72 million) prior to its release. However, following its release, the film exploded onto the stage, receiving universal acclaim for its direction, writing, and performance. The film earned over ₹1,200 crore (~$175.4 million) worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing Indian film ever, as well as breaking the record for the highest opening-day box office for an Indian film.

RRR is based on the story of two real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, who become friends in the film while they are fighting against the British Raj. The film is set in the 1920s and explores a largely unknown period in their lives as they disappear before starting their fight against the British. The film stars NT Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, and Alia Bhatt, among others.
