SHUT IN THEATRE: Weekend Reading 164

June continues and the second weekend brings Reading Weekend 164! The Beat Elite will spend our weekend cooped up in Stately Beat Manor, getting lost in a good book (no surprises there).

What are you going to read this weekend? The Beat is waiting to hear from you! Give us a shout and let us know what you’re about to browse, either here in the comments section or on social media @comicsbeat.

AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend I will read my pretty vampire by Katie Skelly. Having already read and appreciated MaidsI anticipate my pretty vampire it will be great too!

TAIMUR BUT: After seeing Spider Man: Through the Spider-Verse Last week, I’m suddenly in the mood to dive into Miles Morales comics and other alternate universe Spidey stories. I loosely followed when Miles Morales was first introduced in the ultimate universe, but it’s been so long since I’ve read those first ones. Brian Michael Bendis And Sarah Picelli. So this weekend I go back a long way with the first trade of the Ultimate Comics Spider-Man series of 2011. And for good measure, I’ll also read the first trade of the original Ultimate Spider-Man Bendis series and Marc Bagley who started it all.

CY BELTRAN: I’ve been a few weeks behind on my weekly jumper, so this weekend I’m going to spend catching up on everything I’ve missed, starting with the amazing DC Pride 2023, of a who’s who of incredible creators in space. Then I plan to read the most recent issues of What is the farthest place from here? And w0rldtr33the first by Tyler Boss, Matthew Rosenberg And Hassan Otsmane-Elhaouand the latter by James Tynion IV, Ferdinand White, Jordie Bellaire, And Aditya Bidikar. I was also banking Dead Boy Detectives until it’s finished, and if I have time, I think I’ll sit down and read the six-issue miniseries of Pornsak Pichetshote, Jeff Stokely, Craig Taillefer, Miquel Muerto, And Javier Rodriguez. And of course I will finish King’s night patrol this weekend at some point and move into The dead zone. I hope I can cram it all in.

REBECCA OLIVER KAPLAN: I visited a new comic book store, Comickaze Comics, this week while stuck in San Diego, CA awaiting medical tests. After enjoying the third and final season of Star Trek: Picardi was mainlining old star trek comics to hold me up Star Trek: Strange New Worlds released June 15. While at Comickaze, I bought the trade paperback for Star Trek: Picard – Stargazerwriting by Kirsten Beyer And mike johnsonwith the art of Angel Hernandezcolors by JD Mettlerand letters by Neil Uyetake. Plus I’ll read the Eisner nominee The comic book newspaper #308which appropriately has Donald Drumpf nose diving off a waterfall on the back cover.
