It’s really a great time to be directing Shawn Levy now. Not only is he one of the main creative team members behind ‘Stranger Things’ (he is an executive producer and directs at least one episode in a season), but his film partnership with Ryan Reynolds in ‘Free Guy’ has resulted in a fruitful follow-up. ups that include ‘The Adam Project’ and now, ‘Deadpool 3’, which is in development.
But there’s bigger news today, as Deadline broke the news that Levy is also in talks to direct a ‘Star Wars’ film for Disney/Lucasfilm.
While this may sound like a big rumour, Levy has confirmed that she is at least having discussions via social media.
So far, Deadline hasn’t been able to reveal any details about the author, subject, or release date of the notoriously secretive Lucasfilm team, so we don’t know who else will be involved if Levy does lock the deal.
And beyond the planning mess of ‘Deadpool’ and whatever stints ended in the fifth and final season of ‘Stranger Things’, Levy has remained busy. He is in post-production on the Netflix limited series ‘All the Light We Cannot See’, for which he directed all four episodes.
There’s still chatter about a ‘Free Guy’ sequel and thanks to his 21 Laps company, Levy rarely oversees more projects, though he cleverly delegates some of that work to his team.

This marks another positive change in the continuing ‘Star Wars’ universe, with several directors/writers lined up for future films. Taika Waititi and Rian Johnson are both at different stages of film planning in that galaxy far away.
‘Wonder Woman’ director Patty Jenkins remains attached to the image of the ‘Rogue Squadron’ Rebel fighter pilot, even as the film remains parked on the development hanger after losing its slot on the Disney/Lucasfilm release calendar.
And there’s also a mysterious film from Damon Lindelof, who recently hired ‘Ms. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy from Marvel will direct.

Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm team have been trying to figure out the future of the big screen in ‘Star Wars’ following mixed responses to ‘The Rise of Skywalker’. There’s no solid information on which film will be next, but there is an untitled film set in the ‘Wars’ universe on the release calendar for 2025.
There’s no doubt that any film directed by Levy could be ready for that date – with the task at hand, he probably won’t even be able to start working on a film before 2025. So we’ll have to wait to see this one.
Meanwhile, ‘Star Wars’ fans can keep themselves busy with Disney+ series like ‘The Mandalorian’ (which returns for a third season next year), ‘Ahsoka’ (starring Rosario Dawson as the Jedi warrior) and ‘The Acolyte’, which has just started. shoot.
