The cast of Zach Cregger’s next film, Weapons, keep growing. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Renate Reinsve has joined the cast of the upcoming project.
Reinsve is best known for her role in The Oscar-nominated Worst Person in the World, and will join a cast that already includes Pedro Pascal. Pascal joined the cast earlier this month.
What do we know about weapons?
Plot details, as well as Renate Reinsve’s character, are being kept under wraps. However, the report describes Weapons as “a multi-story, interrelated horror epic that’s in the vein of Magnolia, filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 actor-packed showcase.”
Weapons is Cregger’s first project following the success of Barbarian, his 2022 horror hit. Made for around $4.5 million, Barbarian grossed over $45 million to critical acclaim.
The weapons will be written and directed by Cregger, who will also executive produce alongside Vertigo’s Roy Lee and JD Lifshitz, BoulderLight Pictures’ Raphael Margules and Vertigo’s Miri Yoon. New Line won the project in a bidding war that reportedly exceeded eight figures. The film will also benefit from an exclusive theatrical release.
Pascal was recently at the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of the short film Strange Way of Life by Pedro Almodóvar. Pascal stars in the short alongside Ethan Hawke (The Black Phone). The Mandalorian star is also gearing up for production on the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, starring Paul Mescal (Normal People).
