Teased in a special Free Comic Book Day edition earlier this month, Image Comics has officially announced that The prieststhe brand new ongoing series New York Times bestselling writer Rick Remender and artist Max Fiumara with the colorist David McCaig will be launched in August.
Here’s how the publisher describes the series:
In The priests, tomorrow is a harmonious paradise thanks to five families who make everything perfect… for the price of one child per household. Now, as that bill comes due, a son expected to give his all for a family that never loved him and a wealthy daughter determined to destroy the utopia who must now unite to end the Abnormal Reign extended for a generation.
After briefly collaborating with Fiumara during his tenure at Marvel, Remender expressed his excitement to reunite with the artist on a creator-owned project:
“Max has long been one of my favorite artists. We briefly worked together on a Spider-Man story years ago and he’s always been at the top of my list of artists to reunite with. I think what we’ve developed here is one of the most beautiful and unique stories out there, thanks in large part to Max and color master Dave McCaig’s next-level world creation. really unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.
Fiumara added:
“The priests is the book I’ve always dreamed of working on. The pitch completely hooked me with its combination of emotional human dilemmas, exciting worlds, and quirky characters. I’m having fun designing it. The collaboration with Rick has been great, his way of thinking about the story is incredibly simple and effective. He creates strong scenes that I manifest, we complement each other quite well and Dave does such a great job with the colors.
In addition to the main cover of Fiumara, the first issue of The priests will feature variant covers from artists under the Giant Generator imprint at Image, including Julien Totino Tedesco, Toula Lotay, Jenny Frison, Matthew Scalera, JG Jones, Nick Klein, JH Williams IIIAnd Mike Mignola.
