When he complains to event director Doris Walker, she persuades Kris to take his place. He does so well that he is hired to play Santa at Macy’s New York City store on 34th Street. Ignoring instructions from the toy department head, Mr. Shellhammer, to recommend overstocked items to undecided shoppers, Kris directs one woman to another store to fulfill her son’s Christmas request. Impressed by Kris’s honesty and helpfulness, she informs Shellhammer that she will now become a loyal Macy’s customer. Attorney Fred Gailey, Doris’s neighbor, takes the young divorcée’s daughter Susan to see Santa. Doris has raised her to not believe in fairy tales, but Susan is shaken after seeing Kris speak Dutch with a girl who does not know English.

The traditional sleigh and reindeer have been replaced by the S-1, a high-tech vessel operated by hundreds of elves that use advanced equipment and military precision to deliver presents. The complex Christmas operations are micromanaged from a North Pole-based Mission Control by Malcolm’s eldest son, Steve, who expects to be handed down the role of Santa following his father’s retirement. Meanwhile, Malcolm’s younger son, Arthur, answers letters sent from children to Santa.

Outside a cemetery, the group encounters a high-ranking yakuza boss trapped under his car.
13: RARE EXPORTS: A CHRISTMAS TALE (2010)

Best Christmas Movies. American and British research team from Subzero are taking drill core samples on top of Korvatunturi (Ear Fell) in the Finnish province of Lapland. The fell is believed to be the home of Joulupukki, a figure in Finnish folklore that helped shape modern day versions of Santa Claus. It becomes clear to team leader Riley that the entire fell is an ancient burial mound built by the Sámi over centuries to conceal and imprison something. Two local boys, Juuso and Pietari, watch the team at work and eavesdrop on their discussions. They run to Juuso’s nearby snowmobile quarreling about Santa Claus’ existence, as the team begins to excavate the fell using explosives. Pietari returns home to read some books about Santa Claus, which suggest that he was a horned being who whips misbehaving children and boils them in a cauldron.
14: JINGLE JANGLE: A CHRISTMAS JOURNEY (2020)

Jeronicus Jangle—an inventor, toymaker, and owner of Jangles and Things—receives the final component to his latest invention that he believes will change his and his family’s lives forever. This component helps create Don Juan Diego, a sentient matador doll. Jeronicus leaves to celebrate, leaving Diego and the store under the care of his apprentice Gustafson. Diego is distraught to learn that he will be mass-produced, thus robbing him of his uniqueness. He manages to convince Gustafson, an aspiring inventor himself, to get back at Jeronicus by taking Diego and his book of inventions. Without proof of Gustafson’s actions to show to the police, Jangles and Things falls into financial hardship while Gustafson starts his own factory.

Santa Claus assigns the Christmas angel Gideon (Harry Dean Stanton) to restore the Christmas spirit of Ginnie Grainger (Mary Steenburgen), the mother of Cal (Robbie Magwood) and Abbie (Elisabeth Harnois). Her husband Jack (Gary Basaraba) has been out of work for six months, and they must vacate their company-owned house by the new year. Jack fixes bikes as a hobby and dreams of opening his own bike shop, which would use up all the family savings. Ginnie works as a grocery store cashier. Two nights before Christmas Eve, Abbie meets Gideon while mailing a letter to Santa. Gideon asks her to have her mother mail it instead and protects Abbie from being hit by a speeding car. Abbie gives the letter to her mother, but she refuses to mail it.
16: BETTER WATCH OUT (2016)

At Christmas time, 17-year-old Ashley is babysitting precocious 12-year-old Luke Lerner. Luke has romantic feelings for Ashley and unsuccessfully attempts to seduce her while watching a horror film. Strange happenings outside put Ashley on edge, but it ultimately appears to be just Luke’s best friend, Garrett, who has arrived to visit. Hearing a window break upstairs, the trio find a brick inscribed with “U leave and U die.” Garrett panics and runs out the back door, but is apparently killed by an unknown shooter. Shocked, Ashley and Luke run upstairs and hide in the attic. Ashley almost breaks her neck from a fall but Luke catches her.
17: TRADING PLACES (1983)

Brothers Randolph and Mortimer Duke own a commodities brokerage firm, Duke & Duke Commodity Brokers, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Holding opposing views on the issue of nature versus nurture, they make a wager and agree to conduct an experiment—switching the lives of two people on opposite sides of the social hierarchy and observing the results. Witnessing an encounter between their managing director—the well-mannered and educated Louis Winthorpe III, engaged to the Dukes’ grandniece Penelope—and poor black street hustler Billy Ray Valentine; Valentine is arrested at Winthorpe’s insistence after the latter assumes he is being robbed. The Dukes decide to use them for their experiment.

He and their mutual love holds a fragmented family together, albeit uneasily. They have three children in their 30s. Eldest is Elizabeth, a successful playwright and married to the equally successful Claude. Their only child is 16-year-old Paul, mentally ill and taking powerful medication. The middle child is Henri, who drinks too much and has always fought with everyone else.

Abby Holland and Harper Caldwell are a couple who have been dating nearly a year. Abby has disliked Christmas since her parents died, so Harper spontaneously invites her to celebrate the holidays with her family in her hometown. Abby sees this as the perfect opportunity to introduce herself to Harper’s parents and propose to her on Christmas morning. However, on their way to the Caldwells’, Harper reveals she lied about already coming out to her parents, fearing it would interfere with her father’s mayoral campaign. She prefers to come out to her family after Christmas. She asks Abby to pretend to be her straight roommate for the holiday, to which Abby reluctantly agrees.
21: BATMAN RETURNS (1992)

Two wealthy socialites, dismayed at the birth of their malformed and feral son Oswald Cobblepot, discard the infant in the sewers, where he is adopted by a family of penguins. Thirty-three years later, during the Christmas season, wealthy industrialist Max Shreck is abducted by the Red Triangle gang (a group of former circus workers connected to child disappearances across the country) and brought to their hideout in the Arctic exhibit at the derelict Gotham Zoo. Red Triangle’s leader, Oswald – now named Penguin – blackmails Shreck with evidence of his corruption and murderous acts to compel his assistance in reintegrating Oswald into Gotham’s elite. Shreck orchestrates a staged attempted kidnapping attempt of the mayor’s infant child, allowing Oswald to rescue it and become a public hero.
22: WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING (1995)

Lucy Eleanor Moderatz is a lonely fare token collector for the Chicago Transit Authority, stationed at the Randolph/Wabash station. She secretly loves Peter Callaghan, a handsome commuter, though they are strangers. On Christmas Day, she rescues Peter from the oncoming Chicago “L” train after muggers push him onto the tracks. She accompanies the comatose Peter to the hospital, where a nurse overhears her musing aloud, “I was going to marry him.” Misinterpreting, the nurse tells his family that she is his fiancée. Lucy becomes too caught up in the crisis to explain the truth. She remains silent for several reasons: she is embarrassed, Peter’s grandmother, Elsie, has a heart condition, and Lucy falls in love with Peter’s big, loving family. While visiting Peter, she confesses her predicament to him, unaware Peter’s godfather Saul overhears the truth and later confronts her. He says he will keep her secret because the accident has brought the family closer.
23: THE MAN WHO INVENTED CHRISTMAS (2017)

In 1843, four years after the success of Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) is suffering financial hardship from the failure of his last three books. Rejected by his publishers, he sets out to write a new book, and publish it himself, to restore his finances. Seeing inspiration around London, most notably a rich man’s funeral that is largely unattended and a mean-spirited old man who gives him the catchphrase “Humbug” and inspiration of a new character, he begins writing A Christmas Carol, due in six weeks in order to be published by Christmas, despite his friends and publishers telling him that the book will also be a failure as Christmas (at the time) was considered irrelevant and few people celebrated it.
24: ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE (2017)

In Little Haven, Scotland, Anna Shepherd is about to finish school and plans to travel for a year before attending university, much to the displeasure of her widower father Tony. Her friends are dealing with their own issues: her best friend and artist John is secretly in love with her, budding filmmaker Chris is struggling with a class assignment and transfer student Steph is trying to get her social justice reporting past the tyrannical vice principal Mr. Savage. Nick, Anna’s one night stand, is also making her life difficult. On the night of the school Christmas show, in which Chris’s girlfriend Lisa is performing, Anna and John are working in the local bowling alley and Chris and Steph have gone to the homeless shelter to film for Steph’s story.
25: WHITE CHRISTMAS (1954)

On Christmas Eve in Europe in 1944, at the height of World War II, former Broadway star Captain Bob Wallace and aspiring performer Private Phil Davis entertain the 151st division with a soldier’s show. The men have just received word their beloved Major General Thomas F. Waverly has been relieved of his command. Waverly arrives and delivers an emotional farewell. The men send him off with a rousing chorus of “The Old Man”. After Waverly departs, enemy bombers attack the area and everyone takes cover. Phil pulls Bob away from a collapsing wall and is wounded by debris. Bob asks how he can pay back Phil for saving his life, and Phil suggests they become a duo act. Bob is not fond of the idea, but feels obliged to agree.
26: HAPPY CHRISTMAS (2014)

Irresponsible 20-something Jenny (Anna Kendrick) arrives in Chicago to live with her older brother Jeff (Joe Swanberg), a young filmmaker living a happy existence with his novelist wife Kelly (Melanie Lynskey) and their two-year-old son. Jenny’s arrival shakes up their quiet domesticity as she and Jenny’s friend from high school Carson (Lena Dunham) instigate an evolution in Kelly’s life and career.
27: THE MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL (1992)

On Christmas Eve, in nineteenth century London, Charles Dickens (played by The Great Gonzo) and his friend Rizzo addresses the audience as narrators. Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine), a cold-hearted, stingy, grumpy and selfish moneylender, does not share the merriment of Christmas. He rejects his nephew Fred’s invitation to Christmas dinner, dismisses two gentlemen (played by Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker) collecting money for charity, and tosses a wreath at a carol-singing Bean Bunny. His loyal employee Bob Cratchit (played by Kermit the Frog) and the other bookkeepers request to take Christmas Day off, since there will be no business for Scrooge on the day, to which he reluctantly agrees. Scrooge leaves for home while the bookkeepers celebrate Christmas. In his house, Scrooge encounters the shackled ghosts of his late business partners, Jacob and Robert Marley (played by Statler and Waldorf), who warn him to repent his wicked ways or be condemned to suffer in the afterlife as they do. They inform him that three spirits will visit him during the night.
28: MERRY CHRISTMAS (2005)

The story centres mainly upon six characters: Gordon (a Lieutenant of the Royal Scots Fusiliers); Audebert (a French Lieutenant in the 26th Infantry and reluctant son of a general); Horstmayer (a Jewish German Lieutenant of the 93rd Infantry); Father Palmer (a Scottish priest working as a chaplain and stretcher-bearer); and two famous opera stars, German tenor Nikolaus Sprink – Walter Kirchoff – and his Danish fiancée, mezzo-soprano Anna Sørensen. The film begins with scenes of schoolboys reciting patriotic speeches that both praise their countries and condemn their enemies. In Scotland, two young brothers, Jonathan and William, join up to fight, followed by their priest, Father Palmer, who becomes a chaplain. In Germany, Sprink is interrupted during a performance by a German officer announcing a reserve call up.
29: THE SANTA CLAUSE (1994)

Successful toy salesman Scott Calvin prepares to spend Christmas Eve with his son Charlie. Scott wants Charlie to maintain his belief in Santa Claus, despite not believing himself. Scott’s former wife, Laura, and her psychiatrist husband Dr. Neil Miller, both stopped believing in Santa at a young age and feel that Charlie needs to do so as well (after an older kid made Charlie upset by saying Santa isn’t real). On Christmas Eve, Scott burns the turkey so he and Charlie go to Denny’s for dinner. That night, they are awakened by a noise on the roof. Scott startles a man wearing a Santa suit standing on the roof, who slips and falls to the ground. The dead man’s body vanishes, leaving behind a red suit and business card that states: “If something should happen to me, put on my suit. The reindeer will know what to do.
30: THE REF (1994)

On Christmas Eve in an affluent Connecticut hamlet, Lloyd and Caroline Chasseur are in a marriage counseling session. Caroline has had an affair, and Lloyd is miserable and blames the behavioral problems of their 15-year-old son Jesse on his wife’s coddling of him. Caroline calls out Lloyd for his inability to stand up to his domineering mother, Rose. In the same town, cat burglar Gus is in the midst of stealing jewelry from a home he has broken into. However, his plan goes awry when he accidentally sets off the alarm and is chased out by a guard dog. His getaway car, driven by his bumbling partner Murray, is no longer there. At a convenience store, he runs into Lloyd and Caroline and decides to take them hostage, ordering the couple to drive him to their house. Along the way, Caroline and Lloyd continue to argue, with Gus having to repeatedly intercede and telling them to shut up.
31: THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER (1940)

Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) is the top salesman at a leathergoods shop in Budapest owned by the high-strung Mr. Hugo Matuschek (Frank Morgan). Kralik’s coworkers at Matuschek and Company include his friend, Pirovitch (Felix Bressart), a kindly family man; Ferencz Vadas (Joseph Schildkraut), a two-faced womanizer; saleswoman Ilona Novotny (Inez Courtney); clerk Flora Kaczek (Sara Haden); and Pepi Katona (William Tracy), an ambitious, precocious delivery boy. One morning, Kralik reveals to Pirovitch that he’s been corresponding anonymously with an intelligent and cultured woman whose ad he came across in the newspaper. Kralik is Mr. Matuschek’s oldest and most trusted employee, but lately there has been tension between the two.
32: MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS (1944)

The backdrop for the film is St. Louis, Missouri, in the year preceding the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition World’s Fair. In the summer of 1903, the Smith family leads a comfortable upper-middle class life. Alonzo Smith and his wife Anna have four daughters: Rose, Esther, Agnes and Tootie, and a son, Lon Jr. Esther, the second-oldest daughter, is in love with the boy next door, John Truett, although he does not notice her at first. Tootie rides with iceman Mr. Neely and debates whether St. Louis is the nation’s top city. Rose, the eldest daughter, hopes in vain to receive a marriage proposal from Warren Sheffield. Esther finally meets John properly when he is a guest at the Smiths’ party and hopes to meet him again on a trolley ride to the construction site of the World’s Fair.
33: HOW THE GRINCH STOLE

The Grinch is a grouchy, solitary creature with a heart “two sizes too small.” He resides in a cave on Mount Crumpit, a steep mountain north of Whoville, home of the cheerful and warmhearted Whos. Having been annoyed by Whoville’s noisy Christmas festivities for fifty-three years, the Grinch decides to stop Christmas from coming. He disguises himself as Santa Claus and travels to Whoville on a sleigh with his dog Max. The Grinch slides down the chimney of the first house on the square and steals all the presents, the food for the feast, and the Christmas tree. He is briefly interrupted in his burglary by Cindy Lou Who, a young Who girl, but concocts a crafty lie to help his escape.
34: The Christmas kid (1967)

In a small western town in Arizona called Jaspen, a boy is born on Christmas Day. Joseph “Joe” Novak is born in a makeshift shelter, but his mother, Marika Novak (Alejandra Rojo) dies during childbirth. Because of the day he was born, the boy will be nicknamed Christmas Joe. Joe’s father (Jack Taylor) will never forgive him for the death of his wife, which will lead Joe toward a rebellious attitude. He will become a troubled teenager, and will end up learning how to shoot. Joe will also reject his father’s pacific attitude. At first, Joe works for Mike Culligan (Louis Hayward), the richest man in town. Culligan has always used the sheriff to deal with the dirty side of his business. Sheriff Anderson (Carl Rapp)’s connection to Culligan is too obvious for everybody.
35: HOLIDAY INN (1942)

The girl showing a preference for Ted, Jim retires from the music halland founded a hotel open only on holidays, which he called the “Holiday Inn”. He quickly falls in love with his collaborator in the affair, Linda Mason, who turns out to be an excellent singer and dancer. When Lila dumps Ted, he comes to find his former partner at the hotel and dances, drunk, with Linda. The next day, Ted no longer knows who he danced with but he thinks she would be a good replacement for Lila. He starts looking for him, Jim having hidden from him out of jealousy that it is his colleague.
36: MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS (1934)

Best Christmas Movies. Stannie Dum (Stan Laurel) and Ollie Dee (Oliver Hardy) rent rooms in Mother Peep’s shoe in Toyland. When Mother Peep can’t make her mortgage payment to evil Silas Barnaby (Harry Kleinbach), he attempts to blackmail her into having Little Bo-Peep (Charlotte Henry) marry him, despite the girl’s attachment to Tom-Tom Piper. Stannie and Ollie offer their assistance to Mother Peep, Bo-Peep and Piper, and later enlist an army of wooden soldiers to battle Barnaby’s cave-dwelling bogeymen.
37: REMEMBER THE NIGHT (1940)

Best Christmas Movies. Lee Leander is arrested for stealing a bracelet from a New York City jewelry store. The assistant district attorney, John “Jack” Sargeant, is assigned to prosecute her. The trial begins just before Christmas, but to avoid facing a jury filled with the holiday spirit, Jack has the trial postponed on a technicality. When he hears Lee complaining to her lawyer about spending Christmas in jail, Jack feels guilty and asks bondsman Fat Mike to post bail. Fat Mike assumes that Jack intends to seduce Lee, and after he posts bail for her, he delivers her to Jack’s apartment. Discovering that Lee is a fellow Hoosier (native of Indiana), and that she has nowhere to spend Christmas, Jack offers to drop her off at her mother’s house on his way to visit his own family.
38: MICKEY’S CHRISTMAS

Best Christmas Movies. Inspired by the 1892 short story “Christmas Every Day” by William Dean Howells. Huey, Dewey and Louie wake up Chip and Dale one Christmas morning and then go downstairs to open their presents, even though they are supposed to wait for Daisy, Uncle Scrooge and Aunt Gertie to arrive. The boys then take their new sleds from Uncle Donald (not reading the included card) and go sledding before having Christmas dinner, where Donald yells at them to learn some manners. While Donald, Daisy, Uncle Scrooge and Aunt Gertie sing carols, the boys play with their new toys. Later, it is time to go to bed and having enjoyed the day immensely, the boys wish for it to be Christmas every day. Their wish is granted and at first they are joyful. After a few days however, they begin to get tired of Christmas and realize that every day will be exactly the same.
39: CAROL (1983)

On Christmas Eve, Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly London commodities trader, does not share the merriment of Christmas. He declines his nephew Fred Hollywell’s invitation for Christmas dinner and reluctantly accepts his loyal but underpaid employee Bob Cratchit’s request to have Christmas off since there will be no business for Scrooge during the day. As he leaves for the exchange, Scrooge encounters Bob’s ill son Tiny Tim waiting across from Scrooge’s office. After initially mistaking Tim for a beggar, Scrooge assures him that he will have a long wait for his father in the cold before leaving. At the exchange, Scrooge charges three other businessmen 5% extra for corn because they failed to meet his demands the day before, much to their dismay.
40: RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER (1964)

Donner, Santa’s lead reindeer, and his wife have a new fawn named Rudolph. They are surprised to find out he was born with a glowing red nose. Donner attempts to first cover Rudolph’s nose with mud, and later uses a fake nose, so Rudolph will fit in with the other reindeer. The following spring, Rudolph goes out for the reindeer games, where the new fawns learn to fly and are scouted by Santa for future sleigh duty. Rudolph meets a doe named Clarice, who tells him he is cute, making Rudolph fly. While he celebrates with the other bucks, Rudolph’s fake nose pops off, causing the other reindeer to mock him and Coach Comet to expel him.
41: WHITE REINDEER (2013)

Suzanne is a successful realtor living in the suburbs of Washington D.C. with her weatherman husband Jeff. With Christmas just a month away, Suzanne and Jeff celebrate an imminent move to Hawaii; things can’t be better with Suzanne as she giddily anticipates the move and her favorite time of year. However, after coming home one day to find her husband brutally murdered, Suzanne’s life becomes filled with overwhelmed grief. A few days later, a get-together is held at Suzanne’s house with friends and family following Jeff’s funeral. During this time, a co-worker of Jeff’s approaches Suzanne in tears. After finding privacy in the bathroom, the co-worker explains to Suzanne that Jeff was involved for a long time with young stripper named Autumn.
42: CHRISTMAS IN CONNECTICUT (1945)

Her articles about her fictitious Connecticut farm, husband, and baby are admired by housewives across the country. Her publisher, Alexander Yardley (Sydney Greenstreet), is unaware of the charade and insists that Elizabeth host a Christmas dinner for returning war hero Jefferson Jones (Dennis Morgan), who read all of her recipes while in the hospital and is so fond of them that his nurse/fiancée Mary Lee (Joyce Compton), wrote a letter to the publisher. Facing a career-ending scandal, not only for herself but for her editor, Dudley Beecham (Robert Shayne), Lane is forced to comply.
43: A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS (1965)

Best Christmas Movies. On their way to join their friends ice skating on a frozen pond, Charlie Brown confides in Linus that, despite all the things he likes about the Christmas season, he is still depressed. After Linus’ reproach, and a put-down from Violet, he visits Lucy’s psychiatric booth and tells her his problem. She suggests that he direct the group’s annual Christmas play to get him involved, and he accepts. Charlie Brown becomes even more discouraged by his observations of Christmas’ commercialization as he heads for the rehearsal: Lucy laments over not receiving real estate for Christmas; Snoopy decorates his doghouse for a neighborhood lights and display contest; and Charlie Brown’s younger sister Sally asks him to write a greedy letter to Santa Claus.
44: THE BISHOP’S WIFE (1947)

Best Christmas Movies. Bishop Henry Brougham (David Niven), troubled with funding the building of a new cathedral, prays for divine guidance. His plea is seemingly answered by a suave angel named Dudley (Cary Grant), who reveals his identity only to the clergyman. However, Dudley’s mission is not to help construct a cathedral, but to spiritually guide Henry and the people around him. Henry has become obsessed with raising funds, to the detriment of his family life. His relationships with wife Julia (Loretta Young) and their young daughter Debby (Karolyn Grimes) are strained by his focus on the cathedral.
45: 8-BIT CHRISTMAS (2021)

Best Christmas Movies. Jake Doyle (Neil Patrick Harris) recounts to his young cell phone obsessed daughter, Annie, how, as a child in the late 1980s, he got his first Nintendo Entertainment System. The movie is told in flashbacks as Jake recalls the memory of that Christmas season when all he wanted was the game console. Timothy Keane, the richest kid in the grade, is the only kid in town with the new Nintendo entertainment system and all of the latest accessories. Every day, Jake and his friends gather with the rest of the school outside of Timmy’s house where he chooses ten kids to play in his basement. Timmy even ends up getting the NES Power Glove, only to discover that the product is a bit of a joke.
46: A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY (2015)

Best Christmas Movies. Dangerous Dan is an alcoholic radio DJ stuck pulling a long shift at the Bailey Downs radio station during Christmas. During his broadcast, he keeps receiving notices of a disturbance at the local mall, telling his listeners to stay away. Dan keeps playing his music while a series of four stories are witnessed: Dylan, Ben, and Molly Simon have decided to break into their school, which used to be a convent, to investigate the murders of two students, one of whom was Dan’s grandson, that occurred in the school’s basement the year before.
47: LET IT SNOW (2019)

Best Christmas Movies. On Christmas Eve in Laurel, Illinois, Julie Reyes runs into rising pop star Stuart Bale on a train. He mistakes her for a fan when she tries to return his phone to him, to which she takes offense, despite his apologies. After the train is stopped by snowed-over tracks, Julie gets off to walk home, Stuart joins her and offers lunch at a local diner called Waffle Town. She reluctantly agrees and later has to save him from a group of fangirl cheerleaders. Julie reveals to Stuart she got accepted to Columbia and her mom is also deathly sick, but if she delays leaving, she will lose the scholarship.
48: LEGO STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL (2020)

Best Christmas Movies. Rey and BB-8 embark on a quest to gain deeper knowledge of the Force, but their visit to a mysterious Jedi temple sends them through time and space. Rey interacts with Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, and other characters in some of the franchise’s most beloved moments. They attempt to return in time for the Life Day feast.
49: FROSTY THE SNOWMAN (1969)

Best Christmas Movies. In a schoolhouse on Christmas Eve, inept magician Professor Hinkle unsuccessfully performs his tricks during a Christmas party, upon being dismissed, the children go outside to play in the snow where they build a snowman. After other children suggest several names for him, they agree on Karen’s name “Frosty”, Professor Hinkle chases his hat over his rabbit Hocus Pocus, which blows off by the wind and is caught by Karen who puts it on Frosty’s head and brings him to life. Professor Hinkle reclaims the hat when it gets blown off and declines that he saw Frosty come to life. Later, Hocus brings the hat back to the children, who bring Frosty back to life again. Feeling the temperature rising, Frosty fears he will melt unless he can get to the North Pole.
50: BLACK CHRISTMAS (1974)

Best Christmas Movies. An unseen man climbs the exterior of a sorority house, where a Christmas party is being held, and enters the attic. The house phone rings, and Jess Bradford answers to discover it is an obscene phone call from a person who has called before known as “The Moaner”. Jess calls the other sorority girls and they listen as the caller rants, moans, and screams in strange voices. The girls are initially startled by the caller, but Barb, an inebriated student, insults the caller; after a moment of bickering, the caller threatens to kill them in a sudden low tone. A younger student, Clare Harrison, suggests that the caller could be a rapist before returning to her bedroom to pack her suitcase. Right when she leaves, Mrs. MacHenry, the housemother, arrives and is immediately given a negligee by the girls.
51: THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY (2013)

Best Christmas Movies. Mia Sullivan (Monica Calhoun), wife of Lance Sullivan (Morris Chestnut), has sent letters requesting that the old gang joins them for Christmas: Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs) and his almost-ready pregnant wife Robyn (Sanaa Lathan), Julian “Murch” Murchison (Harold Perrineau) and wife Candace Sparks (Regina Hall), her best friend Jordan Armstrong (Nia Long) and boyfriend Brian McDonald (Eddie Cibrian), Quentin “Q” Spivey (Terrence Howard), and Shelby Taylor (Melissa De Sousa). Shelby is living the dreamed life as a cast member of a popular The Real Housewives television show franchise, and is now a prominent reality television star.
52: THE NIGHT BEFORE (2015)

Best Christmas Movies. In December 2001, Ethan Miller loses his parents in a car accident. His best friends Isaac Greenberg and Chris Roberts resolve to spend every Christmas Eve with him so that he will not be alone. The three learn about the exclusive Nutcracker Ball party but are unable to find it. They continue their collective holiday tradition for many years until 2015, when they finally decide to end the tradition. Chris, now a famous football player, and Isaac, married with a baby on the way, worry that Ethan, a struggling musician working dead-end jobs, is not ready for the tradition to end. At work, Ethan steals tickets to the Nutcracker Ball.
53: THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES (2018)

Best Christmas Movies. In Lowell, Massachusetts, near Christmas 2018, widowed mother Claire Pierce (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) struggles to hold her family together after the death of her firefighter husband Doug (Oliver Hudson), who had perished in a fire after running into it to save several citizens. Her son Teddy (Judah Lewis) has lost his Christmas spirit and engages in malicious activities such as stealing cars. His younger sister Kate (Darby Camp) nevertheless is trying to keep the Christmas spirit alive while keeping a strong belief in Santa Claus. Kate catches Teddy stealing a car from a parking lot and films it, threatening to show the tape to Claire, but changes her mind and tells Claire that Teddy had broken a picture frame instead.
54: SCROOGED (1988)

Best Christmas Movies. IBC Television president Frank Cross is pushing his company to broadcast an extravagant live production of A Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve, making the staff work throughout the holiday. Frank fires executive Eliot Loudermilk for disagreeing with him, and sends cheap IBC-monogrammed towels to most of the people on his Christmas list, including his personal assistant Grace and his brother James, while the powerful and influential people on his list get an expensive four-head hi-fi stereo VCR. Frank’s boss Preston Rhinelander, seeing the stress Frank is under with the production, brings in Brice Cummings to provide assistance, though Brice secretly wants Frank’s job.
55: A VERY HAROLD & KUMAR CHRISTMAS (2011)

Best Christmas Movies. Seven years after escaping from Guantanamo Bay detention camp, and two years after they have last spoken, best friends and roommates Harold Lee and Kumar Patel have gone their separate ways. Harold has given up smoking cannabis, become a successful businessman on Wall Street and married his Latina girlfriend Maria. Kumar, on the other hand, is poor and still lives in the messy apartment he once shared with Harold after getting kicked out of medical school due to failing a drug test. Kumar has recently been dumped again by his girlfriend Vanessa, who arrives at Kumar’s apartment to inform him that she is pregnant with his child. Maria’s father and Harold’s father-in-law Mr. Perez decides to stay at Harold and Maria’s house for Christmas.
56: NATIONAL LAMPOON’S CHRISTMAS VACATION (1989)

Best Christmas Movies. Chicago-area resident Clark Griswold plans to have a great Christmas with his entire family. He drives his wife Ellen, daughter Audrey, and son Rusty out to the country to find a tree. After walking through the snow for hours, Clark picks out the largest tree he can find. Realizing too late that they did not bring any tools to cut the tree down, they are forced to uproot it instead, before driving home with the tree strapped to the roof of their car. Soon after, both Clark’s and Ellen’s parents arrive for Christmas, but their bickering quickly begins to annoy the family. Clark, however, maintains a positive attitude, determined to have a “fun old-fashioned family Christmas”.
57: GODMOTHERED (2020)

In a magical place called the Motherland, fairy godmothers train so that they can help people’s wishes come true. Among them is the youngest, and only fairy who is not elderly, Eleanor Fay Bloomingbottom who gleefully commits to the craft despite not being very good at it. The godmothers stick to a “formula” that many have grown bored with (i.e., true love, castle, etc.). Eleanor learns from another godmother that the school is to be shut down, as nobody makes wishes anymore, and that they will have to learn to be tooth fairies instead. Determined, Eleanor checks the assignment room and discovers a letter from a 10-year-old girl named Mackenzie Walsh and decides to help her. She is aided by the oldest student, Agnes, who warns her that if she is found out, the school will shut down and, worse, her powers will be stripped.
58: HOME ALONE (1990)

The McCallister family is preparing to spend Christmas in Paris, gathering at Peter and Kate’s home in a Chicago suburb on the night before their departure. Peter and Kate’s youngest son, Kevin, is the subject of ridicule by his older siblings and cousins. Kevin inadvertently ruins the family dinner after a brief scuffle against his oldest brother Buzz, resulting in Kate sending him up to the attic. Kevin berates his mother for allowing the rest of the family to pick on him and wishes that his family would disappear. During the night, heavy winds create a power outage, disabling the alarm clocks and causing the family to oversleep. In the confusion and rush to get to the airport, Kevin is accidentally left behind.
59: SINGLE ALL THE WAY (2021)

Best Christmas Movies. Peter, a social media strategist living in Los Angeles, is tired of his entire family asking him about his single status each year when he visits them for the holidays. He is excited to bring his new boyfriend Tim to New Hampshire to meet them, until he finds out that Tim is married when Tim’s wife hires Peter’s best friend and roommate Nick as a freelance handyman. Devastated, Peter convinces Nick to travel to New Hampshire with him and pretend that they are dating. Before they can announce their fake relationship, Peter’s mother Carole tells him that she has arranged a blind date between Peter and her spinning instructor James. Peter reluctantly agrees with encouragement from Carole and Nick.
60: KRAMPUS (2015)

Best Christmas Movies. Three days before Christmas, the prosperous but dysfunctional Engel family prepare for the holidays. The youngest member of the family, Max Engel remains a firm believer in Santa Claus and intends to send him a letter. His family includes his teenage sister Beth, their parents Tom and Sarah, and Tom’s mother, whom the family calls Omi, and who speaks mostly German. Sarah’s side of the family visiting for Christmas include Aunt Linda and Uncle Howard, Sarah and Linda’s cantankerous Aunt Dorothy, and Linda and Howard’s children Howie Jr., Stevie, Jordan, and baby Chrissie as well as their bulldog Rosie. Max wants to continue family traditions, but tensions among his relatives sap their Christmas spirit.
61: SILENT NIGHT (2021)

Best Christmas Movies. Married couple Nell and Simon host a yearly Christmas dinner at their country estate for their former school friends and their spouses. This Christmas is a special occasion with everyone dressing in formal wear and the children being allowed to swear. It is gradually revealed that because of an imminent environmental catastrophe in which a gigantic rolling poisonous gas cloud (which follows minutes after numerous smaller green tornadoes that are generally considered as heralds of the upcoming danger) is killing most life forms, the British government has issued suicide pills for a quick and easy death before the cloud hits Britain. The suicide pills were delivered to the entire population, except for the homeless and irregular migrants. Nell, Simon, and the rest of their friends have made a suicide pact to take the pills and give them to their children.
62: THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES 2 (2020)

Best Christmas Movies. Two years have passed since the events of the last film. Kate Pierce (Darby Camp) is now a cynical 13 year old who is unhappy spending a family Christmas in Cancún, Mexico with her mom Claire (Kimberly Williams-Paisley), her brother Teddy (Judah Lewis), her mom’s new boyfriend Bob Booker (Tyrese Gibson), and his son Jack (Jahzir Bruno). She wants to be back home where it’s snowing and more like a real Christmas. Kate decides to run away and get an early flight back home to Boston. She catches a shuttle that Jack sneaks on to. They are unexpectedly transported to the North Pole by the driver Belsnickel (Julian Dennison), a nefarious Christmas elf. Kate and Jack are discovered and saved by Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) who brings them back to his house and Mrs. Claus (Goldie Hawn).
63: LOVE ACTUALLY (2003)

Best Christmas Movies. 65: THE PREACHER’S WIFE (1996)

Best Christmas Movies. Reverend Henry Biggs is the pastor of a small struggling African American Baptist church in a poverty-stricken neighborhood of New York City. Membership is declining, Henry is pulled in a hundred directions by his parishioners’ needs, and the church’s finances are in trouble. Henry is under intense pressure from real estate developer Joe Hamilton to sell the church’s property so that Hamilton can build luxury condominiums on the site. Henry has also become neglectful of his wife Julia and his son Jeremiah. Julia worries that her marriage is failing. Unsure that he can make a difference in his parishioners’ lives and beginning to lose his faith, Henry prays to God for help, which comes in the form of Dudley, a witty and debonair angel. Dudley tells Henry that he is an angel sent by God to help him, but Henry is deeply suspicious of Dudley. Julia, however, is instantly charmed by the handsome and unflappable angel.
66: Gremlins

Best Christmas Movies. Struggling inventor Randall Peltzer visits a Chinatown antique store, hoping to find a Christmas present for his son Billy. Inside, Randall encounters a small, furry creature called a mogwai (Cantonese: 魔怪, ‘devil’). The owner, Mr. Wing, refuses to sell Randall the creature, but his grandson secretly does, warning Randall to remember three important rules: do not expose the mogwai to light, especially sunlight, which will kill it; do not let it come in contact with water; and above all, never feed it after midnight. Randall returns home to Kingston Falls where he gives the mogwai to Billy as a pet. Billy works in the local bank, but fears that his dog Barney will be put down by the widowed, miser Mrs. Deagle. Randall names the mogwai “Gizmo” and explains the three rules.
67: Elf (2003)

Best Christmas Movies. On Christmas Eve, a baby at an orphanage crawls into Santa Claus’ sack and is unknowingly taken back to the North Pole. After the child is discovered at the workshop, the elves name him Buddy after his diaper’s brand label and Papa Elf adopts him. Buddy is accepted by the elf community and grows up thinking that he is an elf, but soon learns he is really a human. Papa Elf explains that Buddy was born to Walter Hobbs and Susan Wells, and that Susan put him up for adoption prior to her death. Walter now works as a children’s book publisher at the Empire State Building in New York City, unaware of Buddy’s existence. Santa reveals that Walter is on the Naughty List due to his selfishness, but suggests Buddy could help redeem Walter.
68: Bad Santa (2003)

Best Christmas Movies. Willie and his assistant, Marcus, a dwarf, are professional thieves. Each year, Willie gets a job at a store as Santa Claus and Marcus as an elf , who act at night to steal, using Lois, Marcus’ ex-wife as a driver and accomplice. Marcus takes his role as an elf very seriously while Willie is a sex-addicted alcoholic, unable to properly carry out his duties as Santa Claus with the children. They are hired, at Soguaro Square Mall, a shopping center in Phoenix , where they attract the attention of Gin, a security guard. Willie meets Thurman Merman, a friendly but extremely naive and overweight boy who believes Willie really is Santa Claus. Thurman is constantly bullied by a gang of young skaters. In a bar, Willie meets Sue, a Santa Claus fetish wife and begins a relationship.
69: A Christmas Story (1983)

Best Christmas Movies. Back in the ’80s, who would have thought that this odd slice of life from the director of Black Christmas and friggin’ Porky’s would eventually gain on It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street as America’s favourite holiday movie? Bob Clark’s nostalgic comedy existed as a borderline cult film for decades, and no wonder: it’s pretty weird. But it’s weird in the way most families are, and that few films actually acknowledge. Constructed as a series of vignettes, it plays like the home videos you dust off once a year after a couple of eggnogs, making it infinitely rewatchable – and given how often it now appears on TV every December, you’ve probably seen it enough that it’s getting harder to discern the yuletide memories of little gun-loving Ralphie Parker from your own.
70: Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Best Christmas Movies. One evening, an elderly woman tells her granddaughter the bedtime story of a young man named Edward who has scissor blades for hands. The creation of an old inventor, Edward is an ageless humanoid who was almost completed. The inventor homeschooled Edward, but suffered a heart attack and died before giving Edward real hands, leaving him permanently unfinished. Many years later, Peg Boggs, a local door-to-door Avon saleswoman, tries to sell at the decrepit Gothic mansion where Edward lives. She finds him alone and offers to take him to her home after discovering he is virtually harmless. Peg introduces Edward to her husband Bill, their young son Kevin, and their teenage daughter Kim. Edward falls in love with Kim, despite her initial fear of him.
71: The Snowman (1982)

Best Christmas Movies. After a night of heavy snowfall, a boy wakes up and plays in the snow, eventually building a large snowman. At the stroke of midnight, he sneaks downstairs to find the snowman magically comes to life. James shows the snowman around his house, playing with appliances, toys and other bric-a-brac, all while keeping quiet enough not to wake James’ parents. The two find a sheeted-down motorcycle in the house’s garden and go for a ride on it through the woods. Its engine heat starts to melt the snowman and he cools off in the garage freezer.
