The film also received positive reviews from critics as well as audiences at Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and Metacritic. Damon and Freeman were nominated to the Oscars for their performances. Lou Lumenick of the New York Post said that “This movie portrays an unlikely intersection between sports and leadership in ways which manage to be inspirational and insightful without ever becoming preachy or schmaltzy.” Bob Mondello with NPR wasn’t impressed by the film. However, he said, “Freeman’s Mandela is quite remarkable.”

This true story of a Spanish slave vessel found off the coast New England in 1839 was the result of a mutiny during which kidnapped and slavery-bound Africans fought to their freedom and killed their captors. The government takes the Africans into custody and then imprisons them until the courts decide what to do. Morgan Freeman stars as Theodore Joadson (a freedman), who recruits Roger Sherman Baldwin (Matthew McConaughey) to advocate for the prisoners’ liberty.

Freeman’s fictional character was created to portray the roles of several real-life individuals who worked for the release of imprisoned Africans (per JSTOR). Anthony Hopkins portrays John Quincy Adams, the former president who becomes an ally for the prisoners and defends their case before Supreme Court. Cinque is the prisoner who led the revolt against the slave ship.

DjimonHounsou portrays him. IMDb rates the film a 7.3. Similar scores are available on Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. The film received four Oscar nominations, including one for Best Supporting Actor for Anthony Hopkins’ performance as Adams. Roger Ebert said, “What’s most valuable about Amistad is the way it names its African characters, who the movies so often make faceless victims.”

Dan Aykroyd plays Boolie Werthan (Miss Daisy’s father). Boolie hires Hoke as a chauffeur to Miss Daisy following a car accident in 1948. Over the next 25-years, Miss Daisy and Hoke form a friendship that defies all expectations.

“Driving Miss Daisy,” a film that was critically and commercially well received, won the Oscar for Best Picture. It also grossed a lot at the box-office. Entertainment Weekly stated that Bruce Beresford’s streamlined adaptation has all the same impact as its Pulitzer Prize-winning original stage version.

Tandy plays the cranky, elderly lady who begins to see Hoke as her best friend. Freeman adds humor and patience to the gentle chauffeur. Tandy won an Oscar and Freeman was nominated (per IMDb). The film received a rating of 7.4 from IMDb and a Metacritic “universal acclaim”.

12. The Bucket List (2007)


Rob Reiner’s film “The Bucket List” features two terminally ill men. A billionaire Edward (Jack Nicholson), and a mechanic Carter (Morgan Freeman), who both once wanted to be history professors, meet in a hospital room.

They form an unlikely friendship before embarking on an adventure Edward offered to finance. Edward’s valet Matthew (Sean Hayes) is their companion as they travel around the globe, crossing off items on their bucket lists, such as skydiving or riding motorcycles along the Great Wall of China.

The New York Post’s Kyle Smith wrote that “The Bucket List” is commercial as it is. He gave the film credit for focusing on older stars and a story about the needs of seniors, something we don’t see often in Hollywood’s youth-obsessed Hollywood. IMDb gave the film a 7.4 score, and box office numbers confirmed that it was a hit.

Dennis Lehane wrote “Mystic River” and “Gone Baby Gone” was his novel. This film, like the former, explores the grey areas of morality and asks the audience when it’s right to do something technically wrong. Claudia Puig stated in USA Today that “There is an urgent ethical question raised skillfully and that will haunt viewers.” This poignant conclusion will likely elicit debate. This film received a 7.6 rating from IMDb. However, its convoluted plot takes some time to get started.”

This thriller is usually carried by the cast. It was fun to see Freeman play the villain, and Bruce Willis playing the notorious contract killer Mr. Goodkat. While Lucy Liu’s Lindsey and Harnett’s Slevin have great rapport, the film offers the possibility for romance. Kingsley and Stanley Tucci are also welcome guests. Some critics felt that “Lucky Number Slevin” was more about style than substance. However, IMDb gave the film a 7.7.

It features Shaw (Broderick), being placed in command of a Black soldier unit after being wounded in combat and then promoted.

Shaw asks Cabot Forbes, Elwes, to be his second-in command. Thomas Searles (Andre Braugher), who is a Black man born free, joins the regiment as the first member. John Rawlins (Morgan Freeman), whom we first meet while Shaw is wounded on the battlefield, and a former slave named Silas Trip Washington join the regiment. Per, Washington was awarded his first Oscar for his performance. IMDb gave it a score 7.8, and both critics as well as audiences rated the film 93% “fresh” at Rotten Tomatoes. The film’s title, “Glory”, is often at the top of lists listing the best films about Civil War.

Unforgiven has an 8.2 rating from IMDb and a Metacritic score of “must-see”. Clint Eastwood’s iconic genre is being reinterpreted in this film. The Hollywood Reporter stated that “Unforgiven” is a beautifully realized film. Hackman and Freeman are outstanding, in addition to Eastwood’s rough, fine performance.

This forces Batman back from the shadows in order to fight for a city that does not appreciate what he has done. Anne Hathaway is cast as Selina (a.k.a. The mysterious Catwoman is a thief who targets Gotham at the same moment as Bane. This stunning conclusion is completed by Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Gary Oldman.

IMDb gave the film a 8.4 rating, while Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 87% “fresh score”. The New York Post stated, “Christopher Nolan’s emotionally and dramatically satisfying wrap-up of the Dark Knight trilogy skilfully avoids clichés and subverts expectations at every turn.” Nolan’s Batman story is different than your typical superhero movie. Nolan explores the inner workings of Batman, creating a more enjoyable movie experience. This is an excellent example of how to make action movies more than just the action.

Morgan Freeman portrays William Somerset, a veteran detective in homicide who is about to retire when he is joined by David Mills (Brad Pitt). They are drawn into the twisted mind of the serial killer as they hunt for him in David Fincher’s crime drama “Seven.” Gwyneth Paltrow plays Mills’ wife Tracy and Kevin Spacey portrays the mysterious John Doe. This beleaguered city provides an atmosphere for the brutal murders and the killer taunts detectives using passages from Dante’s “Divine Comedy.” 

IMDb gives the film an 8.6 and Rotten Tomatoes confirms an 82% “fresh score”. It’s not a mystery film or a whodunit. The killer is captured before the film’s brutal end. It’s an investigation into evil’s nature and the men who try to understand it. Roger Ebert gave the film 4 stars. He said, “The mystery of Somerset’s character is the heart of this film, and it is one of Morgan Freeman’s best performances.” This film is a dark cinematic delight for those who enjoy darker themes.

Morgan Freeman Movies. Morgan Freeman plays the role of Lucius Fox again in this Oscar-winning Batman movie. Christian Bale portrays Bruce Wayne, while Heath Ledger is playing the role of the Joker in “The Dark Knight.” This film is the culmination of Christopher Nolan’s vision for Gotham. It owes much to the stellar performances of the cast, with Ledger being awarded a posthumous Oscar. The film also tells the story of Harvey Dent, district attorney, as Two-Face. Aaron Eckhart plays the role. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays Rachel, the character she played in the first film’s Katie Holmes. Rachel’s relationship to Dent is also a key plot point.

IMDb gave “The Dark Knight” a 9.0 rating. Rotten Tomatoes gave it 94% freshness and Metacritic called it a “must see” movie. Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy deserves your attention, even if you’re not a fan of superhero movies. The middle film, which is often weakest in a trilogy is actually the best. According to the UK Times, James Christopher said that “Heath Ledger’s Joker is a sensation.” The legend isn’t content with stealing the film; he also murders it with style. You have missed an excellent performance by Ledger as Joker.

Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins starred in 1994’s “The Shawshank Redemption,” which was a wonderful film about two men who make a new friendship in prison. Frank Darabont, director, adapted the screenplay of Stephen King’s novella “Rita Hayworth & Shawshank Redemption.” Andy Dufresne, a Robbins prisoner, is sentenced for two life sentences for murdering his wife and lover. Andy then meets Ellis “Red,” Redding (Freeman). Their friendship is a bright spot in two dark decades of men behind bars. Freeman also tells “The Shawshank Redemption”, a story about injustice and friendship, and how one can regain self-respect.

According to Freeman, The Hollywood Reporter: “Most of my memories are that when I read through the script, I didn’t know which character I should read for.” It was Red. I was shocked that they had given me the movie, even though it was Red. It was a character I had never imagined. It has an IMDb score of 9.3 and is currently ranked number one on the IMDb Top 250 Movies. It also has a 91% “fresh score” on Rotten Tomatoes and is a “must see” movie on Metacritic. According to BBC Critic Nev Pierce, “Freeman is in particular exceptional.” Although his performance is not overtly showy, it can be easily overlooked. But it is the heart of ‘Shawshank.
