A trailer announced a 2023 release date for Liar liar anime adaptations and providing flash trailers have been released. The anime also received a teaser visual, a cautionary illustration from the light novel illustrator economyand information about the staff and main cast.
Liar liar co-directed by Satoru Ohno (“Love Letter music video”, “Caesura of Despair” music video) and Naoki Matsuura (“Caesura of Despair” animation director) with Momoka Toyoda (Shadow House Season 2 scriptwriter) as series composer and Yumi Nakamura (“Love Letter”) as character designer. Other staff included Aya Aburaki as color designer and MONACA Kuniyuki Takahashi (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Composers of seasons 2 and 3) and Keichi Hirokawa (Garo’s Vanishing Line) as a music composer. GEEKTOY is an animation production company.
Meanwhile, the main cast includes Genta Nakamura as Hiroto Shinohara, Yukina Shutou as Himeji Shirayuki, and Wakana Kuramochi as Sarasa Saionji.
Liar liar is based on the MF Bunko J light novel series written by Haruki Kuouwhich began in 2019 and has 11 volumes as of July 2022. The series has also inspired a manga adaptation by Funa Yukina.
The story takes place on Academy Island, where student rankings are determined through “Games”. Hiroto is a transfer student who somehow beats the champion Sarasa and becomes the fastest to reach “Seven Star” rank. Hiroto’s ranking is actually based on a lie, but he must maintain his position in order to achieve his goal.
