John Cena has worked part-time with WWE for the past few years, replacing Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns and Austin Theory. And while Cena’s reign as WWE’s top star included multiple WrestleMania main events and a whopping 16 World Championship reigns (tying Ric Flair’s record), he explained on Notsam Wrestling recently that none of that was his goal for his WWE career. He explained how, ultimately, he just wants to leave WWE in a better state than when he found it and successfully pass the torch to the next generation.
“You can go back, and I’ve messed up a bunch of times. I tried to care and I was too eccentric, I tried to be funny and I failed, but I I always try to make you take care of yourself. It’s been like this since I was rapping. People would want to hear the lines. Then people wouldn’t want to hear the lines anymore. “You can do your thing. rap thing. I’m just gonna kick your ass. in the ring.’ All right, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I make them connect and believe,” Cena said (h/t combative). “If they believe and maybe they laugh, then they feel sad when people screw me over. Then I can get away with something like, my philosophy is perseverance, because in times of years, people will say, “Yeah, that’s actually, that’s kind of what he does. He keeps showing up. He is here often. That’s the thing when authenticity. You can’t shake someone’s hand for the first time, and they know you’re sold. I’m fortunate to be able to, for now, people reflect and see, ‘He is genuinely He has a real passion for the business. My goal is to leave it authentically better than I found it. That’s my goal, to pass the torch.”
“I don’t ever want to talk about generations from now on. They should be talking about Roman, and whoever follows him, and whoever follows him, because that’s how it should be,” he continued. “They should be in stadiums instead of arenas every night. That’s how it should be. That’s the burden Roman has on his shoulders. That’s how it’s supposed to be Too many people caught up in ‘I am this, I ‘is this.’ I’m a pawn on the chessboard, and someone says to me: ‘we’re going to move you with this guy’, it’s the same thing with films. It’s not me who decides.
