Netflix’s highly anticipated third season the witcher is almost here, and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and actor Joey Batey detailed what to expect from Dandelion in the new season.
In an interview with Netflix ahead of the Season 3 premiere, Schmidt Hissrich said Dandelion will be “thriving” this season, and the character falls in love with someone fans know and often appears in the books.
“Jaskier falls in love,” said Schmidt Hissrich. “And it’s with a character that fans will know [and] continues to appear in the books. So what happens this season between them will have ripple effects for a very long time.
Batey also commented on her character’s entry into Season 3, noting that Jaskier will have a “hot girl summer” of sorts.
“He’s got his hot girls summer,” Batey said. “It was really gratifying to see [his love life] told in a very visual way. [We] ensured that these romances are told with truth – and with sensitivity and care, without resorting to stereotypes… I hope we have created something special, a sapioromantic and sapiosexual [connection] it’s as flawed as any other relationship on this show.
Of course, Jaskier will always have responsibilities, which Batey said the character isn’t necessarily built for but will have to learn to do.
“He’s certainly a man of many trades, but I’m not sure he was inherently designed to be a spy,” Batey said. “Yet he found himself in wartime, in turmoil, and trying to do his best to do something right.”
What do we know about The Witcher season 3?
The Witcher Season 3 Volume 1, which will contain episodes one through five, is set to hit the platform on June 29. After that, Volume 2, consisting of episodes six through eight, will debut on July 27.
“As the monarchs, mages, and beasts of the continent battle to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri underground, determined to protect her newly reunited family from those who threaten to destroy her,” reads the synopsis for season 3. “Charged with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to discover more about the maiden’s untapped powers; instead, they discover that they have landed on a battleground of political corruption, dark magic and betrayal, they must fight back, put it all on the line – or risk losing themselves forever.
The upcoming third season of the witcher will be Henry Cavill’s last, as the actor is set to leave the show, with Liam Hemsworth replacing him as Geralt of Rivia. That being said, Cavill will apparently get a “heroic send off” in season three.
