Jacklyn Zeman, Star of Veterans General Hospital, Dies at 70 years old

Very, very sad news today from the world of daytime television:

Jacklyn Zeman, a mainstay of General Hospitals for more than four decades, has passed away after a short battle with cancer.

He is 70 years old.

News of Zeman’s tragic death was revealed Wednesday night by General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini… who took to Twitter to share his tributes to the actress.

“On behalf of our @GeneralHospital family, I am sad to announce the passing of our beloved @JackieZeman.

“Just like his character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer, he is a bright light and a true professional who brings so much positive energy with him to work,” wrote Valentini.

“Jackie will be sorely missed, but her positive spirit will live on with our cast and crew.

We send our sincere sympathies to his loved ones, friends and family, especially his daughters Cassidy and Lacey.

Zeman starred in this old drama as Bobbie Spencer, who came from the role of Luke Spencer’s younger sister in 1977.

He portrayed the character in over 880 episodes and still played Spencer until his death.

Zeman also played Bobbie in the television spin-off of the series, General Hospital: Twist of Fate in 1996, while appearing in several other TV shows throughout his career — including One Life to Live, The Bay, and Chicago Hope.

“Bobbie has been an interesting person for me to play,” Zeman said in a 1982 interview. “I can do… all the things most women think but don’t dare.”

Singer Rick Springfield — who famously appeared on General Hospital in the early 1980s — shared his own tribute to Zeman with Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday.

“Deeply shocked and heartbroken to hear of Jackie’s passing. A really good soul with no diva touch and just saying nice things about everyone,” she said.

“He was the one (along with Gloria Monty) who helped launch my 80s career when after a screen test along with some hopeful young men Gloria asked Jackie who she thought would make a good Noah Drake and God bless him if Jackie didn’t . tell me.

“Love your passion on the ride sweet girl. You left your mark on many of us and you will not be forgotten.”

Elsewhere, ABC Entertainment and General Hospital recently released a statement that reads as follows:

“Jacklyn Zeman has been a beloved member of General Hospital and the ABC family since she began the iconic role of Bobbie Spencer more than 45 years ago.

“She left a lasting legacy for her Emmy-nominated bad girl-turned-heroine role and will always be remembered for her kind heart and shining spirit.

“We are devastated by the news of her passing, and send our deepest condolences to Jackie’s family, friends and loved ones.”

Zeman is survived by his two daughters. May he rest in peace.
