In a story set in the past, Thor faces the recent loss of his magic hammer Mjolnir, but features a spare in the latest issue. Iron Man now revealing Tony Stark knows how to make Thor the new one.
Iron Man #25 features a flashback to “Daddy’s Boys” in the future I’m Iron Man creative team Murewa Ayodele and Dotun Akande, where the Golden Avenger – though now decked out in new colorless stealth armor – ventures into the frozen wastes of Jotenheim in search of the missing Thor. Tony finds the now hammerless Thor easily enough, but the God of Thunder laments the loss of his once loyal Mjolnir. Tony, however, offers to conjure up a technology-based — and somewhat unethical — version of his iconic weapon.
“We might have to melt Wolverine to get to the adamantium,” Tony calculated. “But by ‘borrowing’ Wakandan vibranium and some crazy stuff Reed has in his lab that he didn’t know I knew about, I’m going to have you fly through the cosmos again and smite evil in the face of lightning.”
“Well, electricity,” Tony admitted.
Thor, however, turned down Tony’s offer, telling him, “Nothing you can mode can… feel the same way.”
In his 10-page spare, Tony goes looking for his Avengers teammates, believing he is about to be taken prisoner, but instead finds Thor simply hiding – and moping – in the land of the Frost Giants. This new series, set in various eras in Iron Man’s six-decade history, will run concurrently with the pending relaunch The Invincible Iron Man by Gerry Duggan and Juan Frigeri, will debut in December.
The main story in issue #25 — the series finale — by Christopher Cantwell, Angel Unzueta, Frank D’Armata, and VC’s Joe Caramagna, serves as the conclusion to Cantwell’s title. This issue also previews Duggan and Frigeri’s The Invincible Iron Man.
“Daddy’s Boys” takes place during Thor’s days when he was known only as Odinson, having lost his status as worthy enough to wield Mjolnir. The era opened began at Marvel Original sin event in 2014, with Jane Foster then starring as Thor, with Mjolnir as her weapon. Thor recently regained the ability to wield a magic hammer, now possessed by the essence of Thor’s father, Odin.
