In a recent interview with Deadline, Francesca Orsi, Head of Drama at HBO, shared a new detail about the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Knight of the Hedges. Orsi confirmed that they are currently working on a three-season plan for the spin-off which will be based on author George RR Martin’s other Game of Thrones novels.
Orsi described the series’ potential number of seasons: “Ideally year-to-year and creating a three-season series, which maps out the three novels George has written. Of course, we’d like more beyond that, and George keeps thinking about the remaining novels he still wants to write, but at this point we have our eye on three seasons that would plot out every book, every novel.
While sharing his full support for the ongoing WGA strike, Martin recently confirmed that pre-production on The Hedge Knight series has been temporarily halted until the strike comes to a fair conclusion.
What to expect in the Hedge Knight series?
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novel. The short story centers on Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), taking place one hundred years before the events of the main series. The series is expected to last six episodes.

The prequel will be written and produced by Martin and Ira Parker. Other executive producers are Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis. More potential Game of Thrones spinoffs are in the works at HBO, including a Jon Snow-centric series featuring the return of Kit Harington.
