The upcoming second season of the Girlfriend, Girlfriend anime adaptation has received a main trailer ahead of its October 6 (effectively October 7 at 2:23 AM JST) Japanese premiere.
Aside from giving fans a taste of the romantic comedy’s upcoming hijinks and the increased screen presence of Shino Kiryu, the Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2 trailer includes a tiny preview of Aoi Koga‘s voice as Risa, the sister of Rika Hoshizaki.
The anime’s first season premiered in July 2021 and ran for 12 episodes. The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2020 to 2023 and has 16 tankoubon volumes.
Kodansha USA describes the story as:
Naoya just got a girlfriend, the gorgeous Saki-chan, and though their intensities often pit them against each other like ice and fire, they’re totally, uncontrollably in love with each other. He vows never to cheat…when out of the blue he receives another confession! Nagisa’s cute, sweet, and she’s made him lunch to boot! He knows he can’t cheat, but he can’t let a cutie like this get away…so he does the logical(?) thing: Asks Saki for permission to date them both! The confidence! The arrogance! The very gall! No matter the outcome, Naoya’s future will be lively!
Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2 is produced by SynergySP instead of Tezuka Production. Keiichirou Oochi is returning as series composer, while Takatoshi Suzuki (A Couple of Cuckoos Episode 4 and 12 director) and Shouko Hagiwara (A Couple of Cuckoos co-chief animation director for Episodes 2, 3, 7 et al.) are taking over as director and character designer, respectively.
The returning cast includes Junya Enoki as Naoya Mukai, Ayane Sakura as Saki Saki, Azumi Waki as Nagisa Minase, Ayana Taketatsu as Rika, and Rie Takahashi as Shino.
