After years of silently fighting gender dysphoria, the Juno alum came out transgender in December 2020. “My joy is real, but it’s also fragile,” he wrote in a social media statement at the time. “The truth is, although I feel deeply happy right now and know how many privileges I carry, I’m also scared. I’m scared of invasion, hate, ‘jokes’ and violence.”
He added: “To all trans people who face daily harassment, self-loathing, abuse and the threat of violence: I see you, I love you and I will do whatever I can to change that. world for the better.”
True to his word, Elliot has since continued to be open about his journey, including his recovery from surgery. “Dysphoria was especially prevalent in the summer,” he captioned a shirtless selfie in May. “No diapers, just a T-shirt – or diapers and so sweaty – constantly looking down, readjusting my oversized T. It’s so good to sunbathe now, I never would have thought that I could experience that, the joy that I felt in my body.”
THE Umbrella Academy star also detailed her transition in her recently released memoir, Edge.
