Frank Castle and Matthew Murdock finally reunite in ongoing Marvel punisher series, allowing Man Without Fear to witness Frank’s new superpowers in person.
The Punisher and Daredevil stand on opposite sides of the upcoming war. In his solo series, Frank has become The Hand’s lead assassin, “Fist of the Beast,” which grants him a superpower called “The Five Gifts of the Beast.” As for Matt, Daredevil an ongoing series he shares with fellow Daredevil Elektra Natchios shows the two – now a married couple – forming The Fist, an organization that rivals The Hand, with Matt and Elektra serving as king and queen of the group. In preview for punisher #7 by writer Jason Aaron and artists Jesús Saiz and Paul Azaceta, Matt infiltrates The Hand complex in Japan and talks to Frank, the conversation gets heated in more ways than one when the Punisher displays his fiery superpowers, demanding that Daredevil leave.
Early in the conversation, Daredevil told the Punisher a claim similar to what antiheroes in the series had previously heard from God of War Ares: The Hand tricked him. “You may think you’re using The Hand for your own purposes, but I guarantee… you’re the one being taken advantage of,” Matt says in the preview. Previously, Ares had accused High Priestess of The Hand of “playing tricks with” and “imprinting memories” into Frank’s mind, and said against the Punisher that The Hand was telling Frank a lie.
Why Do Punishers Lead Brave Criminals?
The reason why the Punishers agreed to lead The Hand was because they resurrected his dead wife, Maria, and promised to bring his murdered children back to life as well. Before Daredevil surprised Frank, in punisher #6, The Punisher witnesses The Hand’s final failure in bringing his children back, how the process and repeated efforts have rendered them unrecognizable as humans. The High Priestess talked about trying again, but Frank replied with “No. Not again.” While his actions remained unseen, the Punisher ordered everyone out of the room where his children’s bodies were resting, and drew his sword while standing over the two of them.
Daredevil demands answers from Frank about his family’s resurgence in preview, shouting aloud, “Tell me it’s not your dead wife, you stay locked in there!” While moving to talk to Maria, fire starts to shoot out of the Punisher’s hands as he throws Daredevil, his eyes glowing red. Now, Matt knows that the Punisher has not only led The Hand, but has become a more formidable foe with strength.
