Derek Ubukata‘s Bye, Earth action fantasy novel getting anime adaptation, Crunchyroll have disclosed. Crunchyroll not only streams, but also develops joint projects with Japanese broadcasting companies WOWOW and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan.
Crunchyroll will stream Bye, Earth anime in “over 200 countries and territories” while WOWOW streams it in Japan. The anime is the first project in their partnership to “co-develop and produce a new anime series for fans around the world.”
Bye, Earth published in 2000 by Kadokawa Shoten as two parts in tankoubon format. Yoshitaka Amano provide an illustration. From 2007 to 2008, the novel was republished under the Kadokawa Bunko label in four volumes and with Kim Hyung Tae as an illustrator. A manga adaptation by Ryuu Asahipublished by Shonengahosha, starting in 2021.
The fantasy story follows a solitary girl named Belle, who doesn’t share any racial traits. Leaving her master’s side with a special sword in hand, Belle undergoes the ordeal of becoming a traveler.
