Black Cat kicks off its new series of partnerships with Mary Jane Watson in the most on-brand way possible — by taking off Doctor Doom’s signature mask.
Marvel Comics has given CBR an exclusive preview for Mary Jane & the Black Cat #1, which will launch in a week’s time on Wednesday, December 21 as part of Dark Net incident. The first edition of this five-part limited series is from writer Jed MacKay, artist Vicenzo Carratù, colorist Brian Reber and letterer Ariana Maher. It features the main cover by J. Scott Campbell, as well as variant covers by the likes of Adam Hughes, Pablo Villalobos, David Nakayama, Paulo Siqueira and Peach Momoko.

In the preview itself, Felicia Hardy/Black Cat finds herself being chased by a pack of flesh-eating newspapers. As he reflects on his friendship with Mary Jane and the sense of responsibility he feels to keep her safe, for Peter Parker/Spider-Man’s sake, he makes a shocking discovery: MJ has superpowers now. To provide a bit of context to her current situation, Felicia then goes back in time to discuss her most recent heist, in which she ran off with “The Mask of Doctor Doom” — which happens to be the title of an issue story.
Marvel’s Dark Web Show Is Upon Us
It Dark Net the show as a whole centers on Ben Reilly/Chasm and Madelyne Pryor/Goblin Queen — evil clones of Peter Parker and Jean Gray respectively — as they wreak havoc on the Marvel Universe. The former Scarlet Spider and former Spider-Man want revenge on Peter, while the Goblin Queen has the same goal for the X-Men.
