Bruce Wayne’s nemesis, Failsafe, manages to attack two of the iconic DC Universe locations in Batman #129 by Chip Zdarsky and Jorge Jiménez.
The following contains major spoilers for Batman #129, available now from DC Comics.
Failsafe, Bruce Wayne’s new robot foe who is strong enough to defeat Superman in battle, attacks Atlantis and the Justice League Watchtower during Batman #129.
Batman #129 comes from writer Chip Zdarsky, artist Jorge Jiménez, colorist Tomeu Morey and letter writer Clayton Cowles. In Batman #128, Dark Knight is forced to withdraw from Gotham after he and Superman/Clark Kent both suffer near-fatal injuries against Failsafe, the new villain who first appears in Batman #125. While Team Drake/Robin takes Superman to heal in the Fortress of Solitude, Batman knows Failsafe will likely follow him and jumps into the Pacific Ocean only to be saved by Aquaman/Arthur Curry. Unconscious from his injuries, Batman finally awakens to find that the entire city of Gotham has fallen into the hands of Failsafe and his robot minions, with most of the Bat Family taken hostage.
Bruce’s hypothesis that Failsafe would follow him proved correct in Batman #129 when the villain headed for Atlantis at the start of the trouble. By the time Failsafe gets there, injuring Aquaman and demanding to be allowed in, however, Bruce has fled and taken refuge in the Justice League Watchtower. Failsafe followed shortly behind, traveling not in a transporter but in a ship that Batman shot from the sky. Failsafe survives the crash and begins chasing Batman around the Watchtower. While Bruce finds a way to bring Failsafe to the Hall of Justice, Batman is banished to the open space without rescue. When the issue ended with Batman free-falling to Earth, he recounted, “Failsafe destroyed any means of escape for me. No ships, no teleporters… just cold death.”
Batman and Failsafe’s War is Coming to an End
