Anthony Hopkins describes Marvel’s role as a “useless actor”

Anthony Hopkins has less than stellar words to describe his brief stint in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hopkins, the 2-time Oscar winner, portrayed Odin in Thor, Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok. He was the king of Asgard and the father of Thor and Loki. He reflected on his time in the MCU, describing it as a “no action required” role.

“They put me in armour; they grew my beard. Sit on the throne; shout a little,” he recalled to The New Yorker. “If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, there’s no point playing it.” Hopkins may feel that way about a few of the other blockbusters he’s been involved with in recent years, such as Red 2 and Transformers: The Last Knight. However, his Oscar-winning roles in The Silence of the Lambs and, more recently, The Father, are more than able to make up for his less memorable performances.

When will Captain America: Brave New World be released?

Captain America: Brave New World hits theaters on May 8, 2024, for those who appreciate the Marvel Cinematic Universe more than Anthony Hopkins. It will star Anthony Hopkins as Sam Wilson/Captain America, alongside Harrison Ford, Liv Tyler, Danny Ramirez and Tim Blake Nelson.

Meanwhile, Anthony Hopkins’ next movie will be Rebel Moon, an upcoming Netflix space opera directed by Zack Snyder.
